SKIP celebrates 10th anniversary with 3rd SKIP Labelnight |
|
| |
During the last ten years we released a catalog of almost 100 productions with domestic and international artists. On October 22nd we want to celebrate our 10th anniversary with the 3rd SKIP labelnight at Fabrik Hamburg. This time the spot is on the piano , our slogan is "piano solo, duo, trio".
The concert starts with a solo - pino performance of one of our artists from the eraly days of the label, the fantastic classical/jazz pianist David Gazarov who now lives in Zagreb / Croatia. As a good tradition of our labelnights there are always improvised moments in the concerts, therefore at the end of his set German vibraphone legend Wolfgang Schlüter will join in for some spontaneous duo improvisations.
Following one of Europe's most discussed young piano trios, the Tingvall Trio, will perform their new album "Vattensaga" live to their hometown fans, before embarking on a Europeanwide tour, playing cities and festivals like Berlin, Leverkusen, Moscow, Oslo, Zürich and Dresden . As always the North German radio broadcaster NDR will record the hopefully memorable evening .

It was an uplifting experience to working together during that time on his wonderful work of wisdom "When The Sun Comes Out".

Steve Gray passed away |
|
| |
With deep sadness we have to inform, that on September 20th, the great composer, arranger and pianist Steve Gray has passed away.
He was a gentleman and great human being, who will be unforgettable for his detailed knowledge, unique artistical contributions but also as a friend full of inspiration and his unbeatable sense of humour .
Working with him was a privilege, that we had the honour to share in wonderful moments like his Astor Piazzolla arrangements for the NDR Bigband or the most recent Peter Fessler album, where he also performed as a shining pianist . A key masterpiece of his work, his "Requiem for Choir And Bigband" was our first common effort. A project in discussion, "Songs" with Steve Swallow and Norma Winstone couldn't be realised anymore.
Thank you, Steve, for a wonderful time and great inspiration, we won't forget you.

The secret star turns 75 |
|
| |
Wolfgang Schlüter is among the very few jazz musicians from Germany, who reached world class status on his instrument. As the vibraphone is not an instrument being in the focus all day, the status of Wolfgang Schlüzter is a well kept secret. SKIP is proud to release on the event of his 75th birthday on November 12th a highlight concert from the recent past, the appearance of his quartet at the 4th Hamburg jazzfestival in fall 2007. The albums is entitled "Four Colours" .
