Merry Christmas and big thanks ! |
 |
A big thank you to all the supporters who gave us the feeling that our efforts in 2009 were appreciated. Without your massive support our artists and the label would have been less successful. We are glad to meet your approval with our selection. Special thanks to all the bookings who offered stages to our artists last year and the supporters of our 3rd SKIP label night , a memorable and unique concert .
The year 2010 will start with new albums by Omar Sosa / Jacques Morelenbaum with the NDR Bigband and Kevin Mahogany/Tony Laktos, who will bring back the vibes of the Coltrane/Hartman days. All fans of our current chart act Tingvall Trio will not only look forward to many more concerts around the world but also to the 180 g - vinyl special edition with a new bonus track to be released in the second week of January. We are also glad to announce that the great Paula Morelenbaum will release her Latin Grammy nominated album "Telecoteco" on SKIP in spring, as Luka Bloom, who will have a new solo album ready around his German tourdates in April , May .
Have a wonderful Christmas season and a peaceful, healthy and prosperous New Year. It would be great to experience together more magic moments in music.

Tingvall Trio - Vattensaga |
 |
Following "Skagerrak" and "Norr" the trio finalizes their trilogy of nordic stories with "Vattensaga". Recorded at the famous ArteSuono studio in Italy, bestknown for a series of great ECM recordings, the album stands for an even improved group sound and the outstanding songwriting qualities of Martin Tingvall. Thirteen new musical pearls, leaving space for sound paintings of drummer Jürgen Spiegel , the mediterranean lightness of double bass player Omar Rodruguez Calvo and the bright piano playing of Martin Tingvall , experiencing a Fazioli grand piano fort he first time. A definite highlight of the trios band history so far.

Karin Hammar - Everyday Magic |
 |
Assemled in 2007 by Karin Hammar , "Everyday Magic" is the first recording of this quartet.
Alongside with the trombone player from Stockholm, Jonas Östholm on piano, Dutch Tony Overwater on doublebass and Anders Kjellberg on drums play originals written by Karin Hammar, sometimes supple and smooth, lithe and lissom as on the title track, "Chris Crossed" or "Pyssling", sometimes wistfully dreamy as on "Only Time Will tell" or in nearly cinematic sequences like on "Fragments" . The upcoming quartet is yet another piece of ample proof that Scandinavia is able to put far more than just vocalists into the running when it comes to presenting European jazz as a sound of ist own.

Paula Morelenbaum & SWR Bigband - bossarenova |
 |
In ist title "bossarenova" already describes the approach being taken by arranger Ralf Schmid, to whisk away the cobwebs from Bossa Nova, to restore with the help of the SWR Big Band what is worth preserving in structures and to use an inquisitive eye to unearth compositions inseparably linked to the success story of Bossa Nova. Paula Morelenbaum presents timeless pieces as "Mas Que Nada" by Jorge Benjor, Baden Powell's "Tempo de Amor" or Brazil's clandestine national anthem "Aguas De Marco" . Beside that even classical compositions of Robert Schumann, Heitor Villa-Lobos or the Lennon/McCartney classic "Blackbird" get a new Bossa Nova outfit. Paula Morelenbaum is supported by the great SWR Big Band and jazz soloists such as German trumpet ace Joo Kraus (including a beguiling spoken - word feature on Ivan Lins' "Setembro) or Brazilian guests as Filo Marchado, Lula Galvao or Portinho . "Soul Bossa Nova" by Quincy Jones has been fitted in as a bonus track tailored to 2009 as the perfect soundtrack for the summer.

Tony Lakatos & Frankfurt Radio Bigband - Porgy & Bess |
 |
The double cd "Porgy & Bess" presents the entire spectrum of tenor saxophonist Tony Lakatos' abilities , this time teamed up with the great Frankfurt Radio Bigband. One of the most timeless works of music in recent history has been attired in completely new garb in the form of arrangements by Jörg Achim Keller. The recording contains all the hits as "Summertime", "It Ain't Necessarily So" or "I Loves You Porgy" along with pieces not heard all too often such as "Jasbo Brown Blues" and "It Take A Long Pull To Get There" . Bill Millkowski, a New York authority among music critics reached an unequivocal and equally noteworthy judgement regarding this project: "This recording of "Porgy & Bess" is a triumph fort he team of Lakatos and Keller. With reference to the original material and a vision for a fresh take on things, the gifted Hungarian saxophonist and accomplished German arranger have breathed new life into the quintessentially American work.
