Charlie Mariano passed away June 16th, 2009 |
 |
With great regrets and sadness we notice the news about Charlie Mariano's passing away on June 16th. A unique musician and human being, fighting with a lot of energy against a serious illness during the last years. It was an uplifting experience to working together during that time on his wonderful work of wisdom "When The Sun Comes Out".
Thanks for the wonderful music you left to us, we will miss your unique tone on the stages of this world. Rest in peace, Charlie.

Merry Christmas and big thanks ! |
 |
A big thank you to all the supporters who gave us the feeling that our efforts in 2008 were appreciated. Without your massive support our artists and the label would have been less successful. We are glad to meet your approval with our selection. Special thanks to all our supporters for the first two SKIP label nights , memorable and unique concerts .
The year 2009 will start with new albums by Subtone , our jazz newcomers of the year and Tony Lakatos (Porgy & Bess with the HR Bigband) , followed by new albums of Omar Sosa and Carmen Cuesta . The Tingvall Trio will continue to astonish the jazz world with outstanding concerts in spring.
Have a wonderful Christmas season and a peaceful, healthy and prosperous New Year. It would be great to experience together more magic moments in music.
Thank you
Your SKIP Records team

Tony Lakatos & Frankfurt Radio Bigband - Porgy & Bess |
 |
The double cd "Porgy & Bess" presents the entire spectrum of tenor saxophonist Tony Lakatos' abilities , this time teamed up with the great Frankfurt Radio Bigband. One of the most timeless works of music in recent history has been attired in completely new garb in the form of arrangements by Jörg Achim Keller. The recording contains all the hits as "Summertime", "It Ain't Necessarily So" or "I Loves You Porgy" along with pieces not heard all too often such as "Jasbo Brown Blues" and "It Take A Long Pull To Get There" . Bill Millkowski, a New York authority among music critics reached an unequivocal and equally noteworthy judgement regarding this project: "This recording of "Porgy & Bess" is a triumph fort he team of Lakatos and Keller. With reference to the original material and a vision for a fresh take on things, the gifted Hungarian saxophonist and accomplished German arranger have breathed new life into the quintessentially American work.

Subtone - Echolot |
 |
"Echolot", the debut album for SKIP convinces with strong compositions, tales painted in light and dark colours, linear and jagged beats. At times thrillingly rhythmic, other times movingly lyrical, but always a bunch of potential favorites. Together with the band members' outstanding performances as soloists, the result is very exciting and - above all - very sensuous jazz. The naturalness with which these young musicians play on such a sophisticated level, the ensemble's original and distinct style together with a homogeneous group sound keeps interesting at all times, as four of the band members write compositions for SUBTONE .

Luka Bloom - Eleven Songs |
 |
With "Eleven Songs" Luka Bloom returns after years of intimate and small productions to a style that called for larger studio capacities. His intention was, to play and record live together with other musicians in the studio in order to consolidate the intensity and atmosphere of his songs even further. Template was the sound of the Alison Krauss/Roebrt Plant album "Raising Sand" of 2007. He recaps: "This raw, beautiful room sound, great musicians and singers, old microphones." An album arose within 8 intensive days which captivates through its instrumentation alone: Miniature string ensembles, gospel choirs and pedal - steel guitar support the band.
