Joe Gallardo &
NDR Bigband

Joe Gallardo &<br>NDR Bigband Born in 1938, Joe Gallardo has played First Trombone with the NDR Bigband for nearly 15 years. Before joining this outstanding ensemble in 1991, his roster of bands included stints where he could be heard with Stan Kenton, Mel Lewis and Kai Winding, interestingly enough, a brief term occupying the piano bench in Ceht Baker's group, as well as work on the Mongo Santamaria album "Amenecer" . Having composed the title song to that album, Gallardo received a Grammy in 1974 for the "Best Latin Recording of the Year ." The native Texan had always retained a tight bond to Latin jazz since the outset of his work together with Luis Gasca and Mongo Santamaria.
